Viola by Karl Bitterer, son of Josef Bitterer: Mature artisanry that blends the finest traditions of Mittenwald and Schönbach.
This Mittenwald viola pays eloquent tribute to the experience, self-aware style and musical sensitivity of its maker Karl Bitterer ― all qualities he refined in the course of his career besides his father Josef. Josef Bitterer hailed from the Bohemian town of Schönbach and was displaced to Mittenwald, Germany after the war in 1946. As one of the few Schönbach natives who settled permanently in the Karwendel region, the Bitterer family's work ranks amongst the interesting oeuvres in music history which blend the influences of two major European violin-making regions, thus creating an inimitable artistic signature. Magnificent mature craftsmanship is evident both in the lovingly carved details of the scroll and in the orange-red varnish which casts the grain of the luminous beauty of the top-quality tone woods from the mountain forests of the Karwendel. At a back length of 42 cm, the extrely lightweight body of the viola has outstanding resonant properties; its two-piece back is made of powerfully flamed sycamore maple and its top of moderately grained and extremely even spruce, and together they give this extremely playable viola its unusually good and large sound. Its powerful, radiantly clear and bright, violin-like voice opens up multiple musical interpretations of a kind that is rarely found amongst instruments at this price point. The Mittenwald master viola presented here is thus an instrument that can be recommended to demanding musicians, and after having been carefully reviewed by the experts in our workshop, it is now in good condition and ready to play.

Excellent toning! FINE ANTIQUE FRENCH VIOLIN Interesting fact is in the United States in 1920 the violin by Marquis de L'aier was advertised at 500USD. 500$ in 1920 is equal to 8100$ today.
Antique French violin of the mid 19th century - this Le Marquis de L'air violin by Charles Claudot (atelier) has an outstanding tone in the price range. It is one of his workshop works that Claudot Charles stamped "Le Marquis De L'air D'oiseaux" on the back, this name should later be purchased by the J.T.L. The name "Le Marquis de l'air" was first purchased by Albert and Claudot Charles, this violin is a mid 19th century instrument that was made around 1850 in Mirecourt on the predominant broadly shaped Stradivarius model. The top is made of beautiful medium grained spruce, the two piece back of moderately flamed maple. The strongly patinated varnish is of a luminous and intense darkened color. Some traces of use indicate that this instrument has a rich musical biography and was often and intensively played. We offer this violin in good condition, ready to play. The powerful radiant sound is mature, strong and clear, well balanced with beautiful resonance, excellent projection.

Legendary Germany guitar innovator famous violin makerOTTO JACOB AUGUSTUS (1760-1829)For professional players and enthusiastic collectors.Legendary guitar innovator Otto Jacob Augustus (1760-1829). He worked a few years at Weimar as a chief repairer and violin maker at the Royal Court. He produced at this time a few violins after Cremonese models for members of the Chapel orchestra; also made six violins, one viola and one cello for the Royal Chapel at Copenhagen. Prevented from making more for a period of sixteen years, owing to Duchess Amelia of Weimar introducing the guitar into her Court,1788. She ordered him to make several guitars. Great popularity ensued, and Otto Augustus was kept busily engaged on the construction of this instrument by commissions throughout Germany. The guitar then had five strings, but he added a sixth or low E strings at the request of the celebrated Naumann at Dresden, an innovation henceforth always adopted. Also the first to suggest the use of covered strings for the D and A. Subsequently Otto Augustus resumed violin making, and did not relinquish until death. He worked at Halle, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Berlin and finally at Jena. Died at Lobed, 1829.

Ein besonders schöner und charaktervoller deutscher Meister-Geigenbogen von Emil Max Penzel (1887–1953), gefertigt um 1930 und nach dem klassischen Tourte-Modell gearbeitet.
Der Bogen verfügt über ein ECHTHEITSZERTIFIKAT von C. Hans-Karl Schmidt, einem international hoch angesehenen Experten und renommierten deutschen Bogenmacher.
Der hervorragend eingespielte Bogen überzeugt durch seine sehr guten spielerischen und klanglichen Eigenschaften. Er bietet eine ausgezeichnete Kombination aus Elastizität, Stabilität, Wärme und klanglicher Offenheit und ermöglicht eine feine, kontrollierte Ansprache.
Die kräftige, gerade und ausgewogen gewölbte achtkantige Stange besteht aus hochwertigem, ausgesuchtem Fernambukholz von schöner warmer brauner Farbe. Sie besitzt eine sehr gute Spannung und zugleich die für einen hochwertigen Meisterbogen gewünschte Flexibilität.
Der schöne alte Ebenholzfrosch ist mit Perlmutteinlagen und Silber montiert. Der Bogen besitzt eine Silberwicklung sowie ein elegantes dreiteiliges Ebenholz-Silber-Beinchen.
Der Bogen wurde fachgerecht neu behaart und ist sofort spielbereit.

Die prächtige handgefertigte Meistergeige 1971 von Josef Bohumil Herclík (1903–1987), einer der bedeutendsten tschechischen Geigenbauer des 20. Jahrhunderts.
Dieses besondere Instrument ist ein besonders attraktives und fein erhaltenes Werk von Herclík.
Die originalen internen Etiketten kennzeichnen das Instrument als:

Die Geige ist daher gekennzeichnet als Opus 845, hergestellt 1971 in Mladá Boleslav, nach dem Vorbild von Anton Sitt.
Die Echtheit dieser Geigen wird durch eine handschriftliche Inschrift des Herstellers J. Herclík auf der Innenseite der Deckplatte bestätigt.Die Aufschrift lautet:„Zhotovil J. Herclík, Ml. Boleslav, 1971."Aus dem Tschechischen übersetzt:Hergestellt von J. Herclík, Mladá Boleslav, 1971.
Außergewöhnliche Verarbeitung und Materialien.
Das Instrument zeigt die charakteristischen Qualitäten feinster Handarbeit von Herclík. Der Korpus hat elegante klassische Proportionen und sorgfältig ausgeführte doppelte Purfling. Die Wölbung ist anmutig und gut ausbalanciert, während die Ecken, F-Löcher, Kanten und Schriftrollen viel Liebe zum Detail zeigen.
Der einteilige**Ahornboden hat eine besonders schöne und ausgeprägte waagerechte Flamme, wobei sich die Figur über den gesamten Boden erstreckt und in den unteren Anläufen besonders auffällig wird. Der stark figurbetonte Ahorn setzt sich durch die Rippen bis in den Hals fort und schafft eine sehr attraktive visuelle Kontinuität im gesamten Instrument.**
Die Front besteht aus fein gemaserter Fichte mit regelmäßigen, eng beieinander liegenden Maserungslinien. Der transparente Lack ist eine der attraktivsten Eigenschaften dieser Geige: eine warme goldbernsteinfarbene bis rotbraune Farbe, so dass Figur und Struktur des Holzes unter dem Lack gut sichtbar bleiben.
Der Lack hat eine beträchtliche optische Tiefe und verleiht dem Instrument das Aussehen einer ausgereiften, sorgfältig verarbeiteten Geige und nicht eines massenproduzierten Werkstattinstruments.
Schriftrolle und Verarbeitung
Besonders attraktiv ist die Schriftrolle mit sauber definierten Windungen und sorgfältig geformter Spirale und Wirbelbox. Der geflammte Ahorn des Halses und der Schriftrolle ist deutlich sichtbar, und die Verarbeitung entspricht dem hohen Maß an Aufmerksamkeit, das im gesamten Instrument sichtbar ist.
Die Fotos zeigen auch die feine Verarbeitung der Rippen, Kanten und Ecken. Das Instrument hat ein unverwechselbares und elegantes Aussehen, typisch für eine ernsthafte tschechische Meistergeige dieser Zeit.
Herclíks internationaler Ruf
Josef Bohumil Herclíks Instrumente wurden für professionelle Musiker gefertigt und weit über die Tschechoslowakei hinaus geschickt. Seine Instrumente wurden in Ländern u.a. dokumentiert Australien, Großbritannien, Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz, Niederlande, USA und Kuba.
Einige Instrumente wurden für bedeutende Musiker und Institutionen gefertigt. Zu den dokumentierten Aufträgen gehörten vier für die Geigenschule des berühmten Geigers bestellte Instrumente Yehudi Menuhin in London.
Herclík war bekannt für seine umfangreichen Forschungen zu gealtertem Tonholz, Plattengraduierung, Holzdichte und Lack. Besonderen Wert legte er auf die Auswahl richtig gewürzter Hölzer und auf die Entwicklung von Lacken aus hochwertigen Naturharzen, Bernstein und anderen Materialien.

Old violin from the early 20th century with excellent sound. The violin was readjusted in 1959 by Josef Bohumil Herclík. Josef was not only a superb violin maker but also a musician and capable businessman, offering owners of stringed instruments to visit him if they were dissatisfied with their instrument's tone. He would test their instruments for free and suggest possible repairs, guaranteeing significant tonal improvement. And indeed, every time we encounter an instrument repaired by Josef Herclík, we are admire by the the tone of the violins that underwent his adjustments. In his own words: "Every instrument I deliver is solidly and carefully crafted, and even the cheapest one must primarily have a good tone. I am happy to receive an instrument for inspection, and you can compare it with instruments from foreign companies and see the difference, which always decides in my favor. I master all stringed instruments, so every instrument is properly tested and adjusted."The offered violin is very light, with a total weight including fittings of 435 grams. The back plate measures 36 cm. The violin has new pegs, a new tailpiece, and a new chinrest, all of the highest quality made from rosewood.

French violin Mansuy a Paris violin circa 1860. This antique French violin was built most likely in the workshops of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.) in Mirecourt, the well-known center of violin making in the Vosges mountains of France. The violin, a "Mansuy a Paris" model, introduces the typical J.T.L. style with an especially beautiful and luminous, deep dark brown-orange, antique varnish. The beautiful two pieces maple back and the delicately carved scroll provide a beautiful, elegant appearance. This outstanding French violin is in very good, crackfree condition and immediately ready to play. We highly recommend its warm, voluminous voice, that is resonant and somewhat sweet in the upper ranges.

Quality Antique Old Bohemian Violin.
While beholding the absolutely remarkable state of preservation of this beautiful Bohemian 4/4violin, it is hard to believe the instrument was made over 90 years ago. This 4/4 violin is a classical instrument with an unmistakable Czech provenance: it was handcrafted around the year 1920 in the Jan Podesva workshop in Brno. The sound of the marvelous instrument is outstandingly warm, strong and clear. This Czech 4/4 violin was also completely set up by the luthiers at our restoration atelier and made redy to play. With its high tonal qualities this Jan Podesva 4/4 violin is especially suitable for ambitioned players.
The back side is made of two pieces fantastic flamed maple.
The ribs and head are of the same selected wood, and the top is made of quality medium grained spruce.
The violin received, new chinrest, new tailpiece, new strings.

The ancient Mathias Neüner master violin of the best Mittenwald quality and timeless beauty.This antique 150+years violin by and labelled Mathias Neüner with No. 94 is a 19th century violin of rare beauty and the best range quality instrument. No 94 refers to the number of his house, and not the number of the instrument as sometimes erroneously stated. The instrument has original golden-brown shade of varnish. The violin we received in Edinburgh from collection Late prof. Peter Higgs (Nobel prize-winning theoretical physicist).
This is beautiful example of a mid 19th century German violin, is in very good condition and has beautiful full and mature sound. The violin has a dark and deep almost viola like tone in the lower register, with a singing and projecting upper register. It's setup very well and is very easy to play in any register. This violin features a two pieces back of moderately flamed maple, ebony fittings, and a very nice old growth spruce top. This would be a fantastic, instrument for an advanced student or professional player wanting a mature sounding violin.

This antique violin has an exceptionally beautiful sound, with a clear and resonant voice which has matured as the violin has aged. The violin coming from famous traditional violin masters Bohemian place Kraslice (Czech pronunciation) or Graslitz (German pronunciation) is a town in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. The first historically confirmed musical instrument maker was Melchior Lorenz. At his wedding in 1631, he was registered as a "ein Geigenmacher" (violin maker). The number of violin masters increased, so that already in 1669 they had their own violin guild in Graslitz. This violin is professional work. Nice 4/4 Old Bohemian Stainer violin. The instrument was made after Stainer pattern in Bohemia circa 1920,the violin clearly is the work of an experienced maker. The back side is made of one piece nice flamed maple. The ribs and head are of the same selected wood, and the top is made of quality medium grained spruce.
Dear Buyer,The antique instrument is, however, offered in a fully restored condition and has been fully and professionally setup by the our workshops. Any repairs have either been conducted by ourselves or fully inspected and the quality of the repair verified by our workshop. No further repairs are required and is ready to play.
